Rural Ground and Real Slopes in Lithia
Hydroseeding in Lithia covers a wider range of terrain than most of Hillsborough County. Ground at Lithia Springs sits less than 8 feet above sea level, but land south of the post office rises to about 105 feet. On larger rural parcels that spread can mean a low, damp corner near a creek and a dry, sandy rise on the same property, and each needs a different approach.
Where the river begins
The Alafia River forms in Lithia where its North and South prongs meet, and the community holds the 2,963-acre Alafia River Corridor. The Alafia floods about twice a year. Bare soil on land that drains toward the river or its creeks is best covered fast, and silt fence along the low side keeps sediment out of the water while the grass grows in.
Mining scars and reclaimed hills
Nearby Alafia River State Park sits on the former Lonesome phosphate mine. Its mountain bike area is a mix of pond depressions and abrupt hills left by draglines. Lithia has a long history of saw mills, agriculture and phosphate mining, and some private land here carries the same kind of uneven ground. On steep spoil slopes a light mulch is not enough; those get a bonded fiber matrix or rolled erosion blankets.
Acreage work
Lithia still has strawberries, citrus, blueberries and tropical fish farms, plus homes on several acres. Common jobs include seeding pasture edges, road shoulders and driveways, re-covering a pad site after a new house or barn, and stabilizing a drainage ditch. Grading crews can also handle the dirt work, trenching and excavation for drainage pipe before we seed.
Planned subdivisions nearby
In the late 1990s, Newland Communities bought about 3,000 acres to build FishHawk Ranch, and development has continued since. Builders working at the edge of rural Lithia often need silt fence and temporary seeding while lots wait for homes.

Lithia Questions
Can you seed several acres at once?
Yes. Hydroseeding scales well on open acreage. Access for the truck and a water source are the main things we check.
What works on steep old mine slopes?
On steep or loose faces, rolled erosion blankets or a sprayed bonded fiber matrix outlast standard mulch. We look at the slope before recommending one.
Do you seed pasture or only lawns?
Both. Pasture edges, road shoulders and disturbed areas around barns are common rural jobs.
My land drains to the Alafia. What do I need during construction?
Silt fence along the low edge, a stable driveway entrance, and seed or mulch on bare ground as soon as grading is done.
